I hate politics September 2. 2004

All these people running around like chickens with their heads cut off... Following party lines without critical examination of the facts... Listening to the media organizations that are owned by multinational corporations that fund the political parties... The American Political System is in ruins! We need a new system of government based on local authority over federal authority. Not the hierarchical crap that we and many ancient throwbacks of organizations have now.

I want a black japanese american lesbian woman for president! I wonder if she would run on a platform of discrimination?

For sure she wouldn't cover up a missle going into the pentagon and not an airplane http://pages.infinit.net/noc/pentagon.swf

A weaker federal government? Are you sure you aren't Republican?
#1 Luke (Homepage) on 2004-09-02 14:04 (Reply)
What republican in the public square is pushing for a smaller federal government? Federal abortion legislation, Federal Marriage legislation, Federal, Federal... Federal! What about local... local communities who understand each other and the problems that their particular communities face. What about them... They should have more say than people I don't even know or ever have a change of getting to know.

I see you watched the video. Scary, the implications it has.

I agree, we do need radical changes. Unfortunatly, to be instruments of said change, we'd almost need to be considered criminal by the current institution.

Actually, it has been a long-standing Republican stance to reduce the federal government and give more power to the states.

And do you know the local politicians? If you did, believe you me, you wouldn't be so gung ho about giving them more power.

Paranoia. The suggestions that flash video makes are weak... all it was for me was another chip on the pile of biased conspiracy theory. I wouldn't even call the makers of it paranoid, they simply seem to be trying to utilize paranoia to gloss over the "leaps of faith" they make.

"black japanese american lesbian woman"... I'd call it discrimination to suggest that she would not run on a platform of discrimination.

The flash video was not meant to be taken seriously (though if you do that's ok too). I think it was designed to invoke critical thinking on the part of the viewer. To help the viewer realize that the government wields a power over them greater than they can even imagine. There is a good book that discuses the onslaught of propaganda that is overtaking america; "Information War: American Propaganda, Free Speech, and Opinion Control Since 9/11" by Nancy Snow. If you don't believe me or Nancy that America is being taken over slowly by deception look at what happened to the voices of dessent in New York City this week. http://www.democracynow.org/ Imagine if you will having a dessenting opinion and having someone physically stick a wet towel in your mouth and holding you in a pen for over 48 hours without legally charging you with anything. What about having a dessenting option and being told to disperse which you try to do but the police net you into a corner so you can't then holding you without charge for 36 hours. America has a mythology and that mythology is killing us.

I'm not sure I understand your last comment. If you are trying to say she would not touch on the issue of discrimination.... I must have been unclear (which I usually am)... The reason I chose minority attributes to compose a fictitious candidate is to imply that she would run on a platform of anti-discrimination. Not only for the attributes that make her a minority but for the understanding of what it means to be a minority in a patriachal society run by rich white men.

Luke, I totally agree that a weaker federal government has been a long standing Republican stance but in our current time I do not see this stance being enacted very well if at all.

Hope you are enjoying California! We miss you!

Propoganda is nothing new. Somebody from just about every school of thought is doing it.

If somebody's rights were trampled upon near the RNC, aren't they free to get their sue on? Is that happening? Well those channels are there. If they're not trying, perhaps they're just as guilty of propoganda.

Your posting of the video was not meant to support the implications of the video, or the video's implications are not as serious as it purports to be?

I'm saying that it is discrimination to suggest that somebody's race or skin color, as a minority, will make them less discriminatory than somebody of another race or skin color. It's discrimination to place a value judgement on a person based on circumstances outside their control. Ironically, you could only argue for or against her platform of anti-discrimination by using her actual choices, such as sexual preference.
#8 Justin (Homepage) on 2004-09-04 11:16 (Reply)
Propoganda may not be new but we've never seen it used like this in the US.

As far as discrimination... I would have to say someone who is subject to discrimination would in fact be less likely to support dicriminatory legislation than someone who has faced no discrimination at all.

But whatever... we would never elect a minority president... whether it be just a woman, or just a ethnic minority, or an ideological minority, or just a sexual minority. So the discussion is moot.

Have you been to a people of praise thingy recently. You seem worked up :-) Peace my friend hope you have tranquil serenity about you.

Weird thing is I can't figure out whether you meant PoP things work me up, or bring me serenity. :-) Sorry.

http://www.disinfo.com/

David (and Luke and perhaps even Justin), I think you'd like this site. I have a couple of their books too....while much of what they have to say should be taken with a grain of salt, it's really interesting to see how "disinformation" runs rampant through our national media (FOX news, WSJ, etc). in all, i like it for the same reason that I like the airplane/pentagon clip...they make me think about what I'm listening to, and taking as fact.

I like the idea behind the Disinformation site, but as with the recently noticed ProjectCensored.org site, it appears to prefer left-leaning stories. I'd rather see cases of disinformation from both sides. To suggest they simply don't exist for both sides would be ignorant of the fact that we humans make those (calculated?) mistakes across the board.

SpinSanity, from what I've seen, will rip apart either side without a second thought. "Countering Rhetoric with Reason."

What do you define as "left" "That which is not right" That would leave out much of the nuance of human experience if everything was defined as a binary. Right/Wrong, Right/Left, North/South, Good/Evil. There are things inbetween and beyond the binaries. The binaries are merely helpful references. I like the notion in the beginning chapters of Genesis. The tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. The phrase used there in the Hebrew is not a dichotomy indicating merely Good and Evil. It indicates more of a sense of "Everything from Good to Evil, Everything inbetween" Human experience is a flowing spectrum of multiplicities. The Christian church even avoids the problem with binaries (Creator, Redeemer, Advocate)

Many of the sites, books, tv programs that I've been looking at recently are neither "left" or "right." They question the entire binary! But I'm sure there are people entrenched into a ideology with mindless faithfulness.

We need more perfidious people when it comes to the mythology of our civilization.
#16 David (Homepage) on 2004-09-07 15:39 (Reply)
The only reason I look for both "left" and "right" issues is simply an effort to establish trust or credibility. There are so many sources out there that are "entrenched into an ideology with mindless faithfulness" that you cannot trust the quality or types of information they are providing. They may even provide completely factual information, but neglect to mention other information pertinent to the issue. If I find a source that is willing to step on anyone's toes, I am more willing to trust it when it steps on my own.

That's not to say that these other sources are innately wrong. It's just to say that the quantity of sources is overwhelming and until I'm doing this full-time, I personally need help. I don't have time to thoroughly research every single factoid I'm presented with, the research that I believe these factoids deserve. So, I hope that clarifies that I'm aware of the false dichotomy that the human mind often slips towards.
