Random Disgruntlement October 25. 2005

The more and more I venture into Chicago the less and less I find it appealing. I have yet to meet one person there who has any endearing qualities. In fact, every person I've attempted to engage in florid conversation with has turned out to be selfish. The city itself is dirty and racist with a horrible mass transit system. It's as if the entire city has it's soul bound by fear. A fear that it can't let go of because to let go of the fear would be to admit the emptiness that exists within the city. It seems the people reflect this city-wide disease and can't escape.

I do not like Chicago. Chicago I do not like.

The ideological appropriation of the Christian doctrine of reconciliation by liberal capitalist system in order to conceal the brutal facts of class and imperialists exploitation and conflict is one -- if not the major heresy of our time.

Remember, you are commuting to an area that is inhabited by plenty non-Chicagoans (like yourself), who flock to the city from nearby states (like yourself), so they can get a good job and a good education. There's plenty of a-holes in that bunch, too.

And it's mass transit system has got plenty of cities beat--take Indianapolis, for one. I'd love to be able to take the bus or train to work.

I thought I had something useful to add to this discussion, alas it turns out that I have nothing. I add nothing to this conversation. Nothing to this conversation do I add.

I was going to add.. but Frema beat me to it... I really only get to meet the assholes in academia. Sitting in their Ivory Tower completely isolated and insulated from real people.

Agreed, Chicago is messed up (and always has been) and is, by most estimations, the most segregated city in the U.S.

Academics are usually assholes. They don't get paid much, so all they have is their c.v. to lord over people and make them feel stupid. I know because, for some reason, this is the profession I want to be in. Possibly my mission will be to be different.

Your blanket assertions about people from Chicago, however...

I think that you realize that you were generalizing a bit and didn't mean to condemn each and every one of the 4 million people in the city, or 8.5 million in the area.

Especially when one is your old pal Will.

Eversince Michael Jordan left the Bulls, Chicago was not great anymore. Sure the White Sox won the world series, but not as important as the Bulls' dominance. Chicagp has nothing left but Oprah, whom I am not fond of. I have been to Chicago twice and the Windy City has never been appealing to me. All the while I thought I will move there. Now, not anymore.

It should be "..one person there who..."

Let's not forget our English lessons, please!
